Mixlab Expands Midwest Operations with the Acquisition of The Pet Apothecary and SBH’s Veterinary Business
Mixlab, the leading modern veterinary pharmacy, has acquired The Pet Apothecary, a Wisconsin-based local pet pharmacy, and the veterinary business of SBH Medical, an Ohio-based compounding pharmacy, with continued financial backing from Vanterra Ventures joined by PLUS Capital. These strategic acquisitions mark a significant expansion of Mixlab’s footprint in the Midwest, tripling its network of veterinary partners in the region. Mixlab will leverage its proprietary technology platform and streamlined processes to create a better pharmacy experience, and fuel continued growth.
In 2024, Mixlab partnered with nearly 17,000 veterinarians - a 140%+ year-over-year growth - and helped over 80,000 animals across 8,600 cities in all 50 states. Between the opening of a Florida lab in 2023 and the acquisition of NexGen in Texas in 2024, Milwaukee will be Mixlab’s third new lab and second acquisition within 18 months. At the same time, Mixlab has also doubled its footprint in New York to keep up with demand. This brings the company to five labs in New York, California, Florida, Texas and now Wisconsin. In addition to Mixlab’s standard of free next-day delivery on all new orders, the addition of a lab in Milwaukee will serve as a key hub allowing same-day delivery of pet prescriptions to select markets in the surrounding areas in 2025.

Veterinarians can access Mixlab’s e-prescribing platform, eMix, 24/7 to submit or approve prescriptions and track orders in real-time, or choose from available PIMS integrations or API-connected partner applications. Veterinarians will have access to Mixlab’s extensive formulary of custom compounds, branded and generic medications, vitamins, supplements and over-the-counter animal wellness products for both small and large animals. Animal owners can enjoy the convenience of Mixlab’s self-service portal, which streamlines refill management and order tracking, ultimately boosting compliance.
