Healthcare workers make the world go round. And while doctors and nurses across specialties deserve appreciation every day, there’s no better time to highlight all they do than during national weeks of recognition.

 

Like with most healthcare roles, no two days are the same for a veterinary nurse. They work tirelessly in the exam room and are by the side of veterinarians to assist during operations. Their knowledge, skills and perhaps most importantly, compassion allow the practice to be efficient while soothing the nerves of both patients and pet parents.

 

Veterinary nurses are constantly working with the veterinarian, office staff and pet parents to create a seamless and safe experience for everyone. Some more concrete duties they may perform include vital sign monitoring, obtaining and testing samples, surgery prep and dental work, just to name a few.

 

In honor of National Veterinary Technician Week, we thought we’d highlight some of the reasons why we love veterinary nurses. Firstly, they have dedicated a lot of time and energy to their education to receive the credentials necessary for the role. And after this academic work, they seamlessly transition into the fast-paced, demanding veterinary world.

Here are a few ways to show your thanks for everything your veterinary nurse does:

 

Write a card: A few kind words can go a long way. Send your veterinary nurse a card this week thanking them for their work and all they’ve done for you and your pet.

 

Share a picture: Veterinary nurses will never say no to pictures of your pet! Especially if they haven’t seen their patients in person for a while, sharing a picture of your healthy and happy pet with their veterinary nurse is a great way to show them their work is appreciated.

 

Self-care kit: Veterinary nurses are constantly washing their hands. Some lotion can be a great little gift they are sure to use.

 

A meal or coffee: Whether it’s an early morning or late night, a gift card for coffee or to a restaurant means a lot to a busy veterinary nurse.

 

Something for their furry friend: Does your veterinary nurse have a four-legged friend at home? Gift them some goodies for their pet.
